Sliding Door Problems and Solutions

In this blog we will be looking at some of the most common sliding door problems and solutions, which we often get questions about.

Why is my Sliding Door Rattling?

One common problem we get asked about a lot is when sliding doors rattle or swing about at the bottom. The first thing to do about this issue is to check that you have a floor guide, a lot of times we are asked about this problem it’s because a floor guide hasn’t been fitted, or if a floor guide is fitted, the floor guide being used may be damaged. Floor guides are cut in to the bottom of the door and they essentially hold the door in place whilst it slides. For more information on floor guides we have a separate blog on this which you can find here or a YouTube video here. Should this be the problem, we sell a range of floor guides as spares on our website here, you will just need to ensure you choose the right one for your kit.

Why is my Sliding Door Stuck?

Sliding doors getting stuck is also a problem we get, and it also has an easy solution. The first thing to do is to check that there are no obstructions in the track which could cause the door to get jammed, or stuck, for example dirt or dust build up in the track, the track rollers could also be dirty too, or dried up which could stop the door from sliding. The easiest fix for this is to clean out the tracks and rollers, if you believe the rollers are what is causing the door to stick you can use some lubricant to loosen them up, such as WD-40 or a silicon-based spray lubricant. Another issue could be that the wheel pin or bearing is broken, this would require a replacement wheel, which you can find on our website here.

Why is my Sliding Door Noisy?

‘Why is my sliding door making noise?’ is the final common issue we will be resolving. If your sliding door is a glass system this is more common, and it may just need some lubrication on the track to stop it from squeaking. If you find the door still squeaks after cleaning and lubricating the track, the issue may be with the rollers, but some WD-40 or a silicon-based spray lubricant on the rollers should help to fix this.

You can browse all our sliding systems on our website here. Don’t forget we are always available over the phone or by e-mail should you need any assistance.
