A pocket door system slides the door seamlessly into an embedded wall cavity “pocket”, this means the actual door is “hidden” when open. Pocket doors are great for saving space using less than a normal hinged door, as they do not require an area for the door to swing out into. They make the room more open and stylish and it is an easy way to save space whilst staying functional at the same time. Frameless glass doors have the added bonus of allowing light through which can be helpful if a room lacks windows or if more light is desired.
While it is true that some of the pocket door kits require fitting by a professional, some of them can be fitted by the experienced DIYer. We include useful links to technical documents for each of the pocket door kits that we stock on the individual product pages.
We supply pocket door kits for timber doors, frameless glass doors and fire rated doors. Our door kits include the track, runners, brackets and stops and in the case of fire rated pocket door kits, intumescent fire seals. This makes them excellent value for money as extra fittings are seldom required.
The kits contain wall reinforcements which provide the structural strength within the wall, and are what the plasterboard wall boards will be attached to. The rigidity of the finished wall will depend upon how strong the wall reinforcements are, and this increases with kit price. Some of the pocket door kits are available with optional extras, such as wall reinforcers for extra tall pocket doors, over 2.4m. The pocket door kits we can supply are available for both single and double doors. Note that fire rated double pocket door systems have restrictions on the overall size of the doors, in accordance with the fire testing and certification.
