Architrave Free Systems

In this blog we will be looking at architrave free systems. Architraves are stripes of moulding which are fitted around the windows and doors in your home, essentially an architrave creates the door frame. The architrave is used on a standard door to cover the joint between the door liner and the plasterboard. Having an architrave free look necessitates that this intersection is removed, by using plasterboard around the corner of the pocket to create a seamless finish.

When are Architrave Free Systems Used?

Architrave free systems are used when a minimal aesthetic is required, or where the door opening needs to be frameless (without architrave or skirting), creating a sleek and modern look.

Architrave Free Pocket Door Kits

The iMpero Architrave free pocket door systems are available for both timber and frameless glass doors to be fit in to a pocket. These systems offer a range of heavy-duty custom door frame beading sections. These sections enable the skim coat to be painted / finished to blend in with the door frame for a minimalist aesthetic.

The FD30 Pocket door kits are also architrave free, designed to be used with fire doors as they are a fire rated system, these systems can have architrave added to them if an architrave free look is not required.

The kits are available for single doors or double doors, with many different sized kits available depending on your needs. Each door can weigh up to 80kgs for both timber and frameless glass systems.

Doing it Yourself

It is possible to make pocket doors appear as if they are architrave free without buying an architrave free system. You will need to purchase a kit without any timber jambs/finishing kit. We would recommend getting an experienced carpenter who’s done plasterboard edging or something similar before to do this.
