Soft Close Systems for Sliding Doors

In this blog we will be looking at soft close systems for sliding doors, also known as ‘soft stop’ systems. Specifically, what they are and why we recommend them. We have found that lots of people seem to get confused about soft close and self-close systems, so we’re here to clear up the confusion.

What is a Soft Close System?

A soft close system, not to be confused with a self-close system, is a type of sliding system which gently assists your door into its final resting position, which reduces the physical impact and possible damage of slamming doors, as well as reducing noise. Soft close carriages are easy to fit, and most are concealed, meaning you can’t see them once the system is assembled.

Fitting a Soft Close System

Soft close systems are usually very easy to fit. For standard sliding systems such as the Excellence 60 Soft close, the soft close carriage is inserted into the track, completely concealing the carriage. For more information on this system, as well as how to assemble the soft close, check out our YouTube video on it here. With pocket door soft close systems, we recommend fitting the carriage to the door, rather than inside the track. This is in case of any faults occurring; it just means you would not have to take the wall out of the system, and the soft close carriage can be accessed easily. Glass systems such as the SAHECO Compact-X also conceal the soft close carriage inside the track.

Benefits of Soft Close Systems

Having a soft close sliding system is a lot quieter than a normal sliding system, as it stops the doors from slamming. This in turn can also help reduce the damage which can be caused when doors slam, increasing the longevity of your door furniture. Soft close systems are also good for households with small children, as they decrease the risk of children getting their fingers caught in sliding doors which move fast, as a soft close carriage slows down the closing speed, it gives children more time to move their fingers away, as well as the doors closing at a lower force.
